Professional Development at iTaLAM

The goals of our professional development training are to provide teachers who teach iTaLAM programs with the best tools, skills, and content, to enable students in the Diaspora to study Hebrew and Jewish heritage.


Training Institute:

Our training institute are the most comprehensive programs offered. The face-to-face training track includes six full days of professional development, four days during the summer and an additional two days in the winter. The training program offers a variety of possibilities for educators, for teachers who are new to implementing the program, as well as experienced users and for principals and coordinators, to better understand the various parts of the iTaLAM program.



Summer 2020 Training Institutes

Due to the advent of Covid-19 we are forced to cancel the face to face iTaLAM Summer Training Institutes. The teacher 2020 – 2021 training courses are being revamped and adapted to the remote learning environment to which we have all become accustomed. Join the iTaLAM 2020 – 2021 Training Institute to learn everything you will need to know to teach Hebrew and Jewish Heritage in the class or remotely. 2020 – 2021 iTaLAM Training will consist of a choice of online, interactive, experiential courses.


How is it taught?

The 2020 – 2021 Training Courses include 6 online meetings (synchronous) with a meeting times in July or in August. There will be 8 more online meetings which will take place approximately every 4 week from September through May. The sessions will be taught as  experiential, interactive workshops. In addition, there with be asynchronous work to be completed in between the online sessions.

Dates: Sundays – August 2, August 9, August 16, August 23, August 30 and September 13

Who should attend?
The curriculum course and the Torah course are appropriate for teachers who are new to iTaLAM or teachers who are teaching a new grades iTaLAM curriculum.

Learn how to teach the various iTaLAM content material in the classroom and at the same time learn how to deal with remote learning in emergencies by adapting the content to synchronous and asynchronous lessons.



NEW! Course for Experienced iTaLAM Teachers
Adapting iTaLAM for Students with Special Needs

Learn how to adapt the iTaLAM program for students who have difficulty learning Hebrew as a second language and students with learning differences.



iTaLAM Torah 

Two online sessions with a focus on the methodology for teaching Torah with iTaLAM.



Administrator and Coordinator Course

Administrators and Hebrew Coordinators learn how to best implement iTaLAM, guide and assist their teachers to achieve maximum results teaching the students the Hebrew language and connecting them with their Jewish Heritage.

Important Information

iTaL AM 1, 2 , 3, 4 and 5  Training Institutes in parallel tracks are offered in different locations twice during the year:   The Summer iTaLAM Institute – Part I of the Training Institute presents theory and methodology underlying the iTaLAM program, and introduces the units studied during the first half of the school year.   The Mid-year or Winter iTaLAM Institute – Part II of the Training Institute is devoted to the units studied during the second half of the school year, while continuing to expand on the pedagogical approach of iTaLAM.    Tracks offered at the Training Institutes:

  • Administrator and Hebrew/Judaic Studies Coordinator Track (2 day training)*

*Please do not make travel arrangements until we confirm the availability of these tracks.

  • In grades 1 -5 iTaLAM and TaL AM are fully integrated and complementary to one another. Therefore, if you register for one of these grades, you will be training for both iTaLAM and TaL AM.
  • When you make your travel arrangements, please plan to arrive prior to the start of the program and depart after its conclusion.
  • Check in and registration begin at 8:30 AM on the first day of the training.
  • Training ends at 4:00 PM on the final day of the training.

  • Learn the methodology of Communicative & Heritage Language and Literacy Development.
  • Become acquainted with the content, concepts, skills and material of the program.
  • Observe iTaLAM instruction on videotaped lessons of classes studying with the program.
  • Learn how to assess students’ achievements and use results for planned instruction.
  • Observe alternative teaching approaches and ways of organizing the classroom.
  • Fine-tune instructional skills to serve students’ varied learning styles and needs.
  • Learn to prepare a classroom portfolio and utilize it to communicate the achievements of each student, the curriculum learned, and its linkage to the next grade.

  • Up to 14 days before the institute: full refund
  • Up to 7 days before the institute: 50% refund of the full price
  • After 7 days before the institute, or non-attendance: 20% refund of the full price
